Square of the Marquis of San Juan Marcos

Paraí ba do Sul - Rio de Janeiro, 25850-000, Brazil

Description:

The Marquis Square of San Juan Marcos is a stunning area with a garden and a monument that deserves the title of the most beautiful place in Rio de Janeiro. It is located between Liberty Avenue and Edward VII Garden. The square is named after the Paes Leme family.

In the center of this square is the magnificent monument of Pombal. It was built in honor of the man who was responsible for the reconstruction of Lisbon after the earthquake of 1755. The monument depicts a marquis standing on top of a column and placing his hand on a lion (a symbol of power).

The beautiful landscape design of the square excites and delights. Planted in November 1868, the royal palm trees give the square its grandeur. And the fountains located on its territory are as refreshing as possible on hot days.
