The Indian Museum is one of the largest ethnographic museums in Brazil dedicated to the life and traditions of the Indian tribes of South America. The museum is located in Rio de Janeiro and is very popular with tourists.
The Indian Museum was founded in 1953, but it gained popularity much later - in 1978, after moving to a new, more spacious building. The museum is housed in a beautiful 19th century colonial mansion whose rooms are perfectly suited to house a rich collection of exhibits. The extensive exposition of the museum includes more than 14 thousand various household items used by the Indians - there are dishes, musical instruments, weapons, objects of worship, jewelry and much more. In addition, the museum contains a huge number of photographs, films, books and various documents that tell visitors about the peculiarities of life of South American Indians.
