Marine Museum
Fortaleza de Sao Jose, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
About the company:
The Marine Museum is a military museum in Rio de Janeiro dedicated to the Royal Marine Corps who landed in the city in 1809. The museum is located in the historic fort of San Jose, near the city port.
The Marine Museum is very different from other Brazilian museums. The fact is that its exposition is not located in spacious and brightly lit rooms, but directly in the basements of the military fort - in narrow corridors connecting the fortifications. Most of the exhibits are simply hung on the walls, and the underground catacombs and artificial lighting create a very special atmosphere.
The collection is very rich, it presents military uniforms, equipment and insignia of infantrymen, combat medals and awards, miniature models of fortresses, a variety of cold and firearms, as well as significant historical documents - in particular, the first Charter of the Royal Marine Corps.
In general, the museum should appeal to everyone - not only lovers of military history, but also ordinary tourists.
