Museum of Sacred History of Tiradentis

Paraiba Do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

About the company:

The Museum of Sacred History of Tiradentis is famous for its unique collection dedicated to the servant of the imperial dynasty. It was opened in 1972. The museum is located in a small house on the outskirts of the Imperial Road.

It is the story of Lieutenant Joaquim Jose da Silva Chavier Tiradentis that is shown in the museum. Arrested and convicted, he was executed in 1792. The remains were buried in Tiradentes in secret, under the altar in the chapel of St. Anne - in the temple, where the crown and scepter of silver were transferred. They are also on display in the museum. The lieutenant’s uniform and belongings are also included in the museum’s collection: uniforms, tools and documents. Also during excavations in the 70s, held in the old cemetery and in the chapel of St. Anne, the skeleton of a lieutenant was discovered. At the moment, these remains are protected by a glass dome and exhibited as a relic.
