The Palace of Christ the Saviour

Sao Luis, Brazil

Description:

The Palace of Christ the Savior was built in the city of San Luis and can be seen as a sample of nineteenth-century Baroque architecture.

The palace consists of two floors. On the first floor you can see a corridor with large side windows, on the second floor - smaller in size - there is a balcony with wrought iron fence.

Previously, the palace acted as various residences and bore a different name. The real name of the "Palace of Christ the Savior" building acquired at the moment when it became the property of the archbishop in 1953.

In 1991, the building was almost completely destroyed in a fire. Valuable French engravings belonging to the collection of Arthur Azevedo were lost. Within a year of the fire, the church was renovated and today is a memorial belonging to the University of Maranhão County.
