Mercado Municipal Market

Rua Nicolau Scarpa, 82 – Centro Sorocaba-SP, Brazil

Description:

Mercado Municipal Market is known not only to citizens, but also to residents of Brazil and even tourists coming from abroad, who specially plan their route to visit this gourmet paradise.

The market is located in a beautiful stone two-storey building in the Art Deco style, built in 1933 on the site of the old market, which ceased to accommodate goods, sellers and buyers. The municipality commissioned the project in the workshop of the Russian architect Sorgenicht Conrad Filho, who built about 300 churches in many cities in Brazil. The special charm of the market building is given by 72 large semicircular windows made of colored glass, typed from several panels.

The market specializes in food. Visitors can buy a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits, meat and dairy products, fresh seafood, rare spices. You can also eat cooked delicacies.

The market covers an area of 2,600 square meters on the banks of the Tamanduatei River, employs 1,500 people, every day about 450 tons of products are sold here.

The market building is the hallmark of the city of Sorocaba and the state of São Paulo.
