The Augusto dos Anjous Memorial Museum

Rua Duque de Caxias, 25, Academia Paraibana de Letras, Joao Pessoa

About the company:

Augusto dos Anjous is a famous poet whose poems are devoted mainly to the nature of his native land and the people of Paraiba. Dos Anjous was the forerunner of modernism in Brazil and the first chairman of the Paraiba Literary Committee.

The writer's house is located in the town of Cruz do Espiritu Santo in the north of the state. This is a small one-story structure. A typical rural house of the early XX century has been preserved in its original form, except that a huge portrait of the poet appeared on its side wall. Near the museum there is an ancient chapel in which the Souls of Anjous were baptized. In the courtyard of the house, an ancient tamarind still grows, under the shadow of which the poet’s childhood passed.

Today, the museum regularly hosts literary evenings and scientific conferences.
