N'Djamena

Lake Fitri

N'Djamena, Chad

Description:

Lake Fitri is a landmark of Central Africa.

Despite the fact that the area of the freshwater lake is about 50,000 hectares, however, it can sometimes dry up, for example, over the past century, the water in the lake evaporated twice. And thanks to the newly fallen precipitation from which the lake is fed, the landmark has reappeared on its land, and gained international importance as a wetland.

On the lake you can often meet local fishermen putting up nets and playing children on homemade rafts. Fitri also serves as a refuge from thirst for many animals living here.
