Czech Republic

Liberation Day from Fascism

Description:

On May 8, the Czech Republic celebrates the anniversary of the victory over fascism in World War II.
1945 was the last year of a fierce battle against Nazi Germany. The victorious path of the Red Army to the west as milestones mark the liberated European cities - Warsaw, Budapest, Königsberg, Vienna, Prague, Berlin.

The end of the war in Europe was marked by the Act of unconditional surrender of fascist Germany, signed in the suburbs of Berlin on the night of 8 to 9 May 1945 by representatives of the Supreme Command of the Allied Forces.

On May 8, the Czech Republic celebrates the anniversary of the victory over fascism in World War II.

Solemn meetings, reviews of historical military equipment, reconstruction of some battles - this is how this significant day is celebrated in the Czech Republic. Representatives of the army, former legionnaires and all others who came to honor the memory of the heroes lay wreaths and flowers at the grave of those killed in the battles for the liberation of Prague. A minute of silence honors their memory. This day, the Day of Liberation, they, like no one, “closed as they could” with automatic queues, shouts of “Hurrah!” Forward, on the enemy!, with every cell of the wounded soul, exhausted by hunger, cold and unbearable load...

Less and less every day there are living direct participants of the Great Patriotic War. And not so much from the stories of witnesses and participants, but more and more from films, books, textbooks, historical works, those who were born after the Victory know about the war.
