Description:

Happy New Year
The New Year, December 31, coincides with St. Sylvester’s Day. December 31 is called Sylvester.

On this day, everyone is having fun, joking, eating a lot, drinking and waiting for the arrival of the New Year.

According to a long-established tradition in the Czech Republic, there must be carp with apples, horseradish and lentils on the festive table so that the coming year is happy. But in no case should a bird appear on the New Year's table, or happiness will fly away.

In our country, on the New Year, it has become a good tradition to enjoy watching the film “Irony of Fate or with a light steam”, Czechs are also not denied such pleasure. For three decades, on the first day of the New Year, the famous fairy tale by director Alexander Rowe “Morozko” is shown.

It is interesting that the President of the Czech Republic gives a New Year’s speech on January 1 at one o’clock in the afternoon.

January 1 is not only New Year’s Day, but also a public holiday – the Day of Renewal of the Czech statehood. On January 1, 1993, an independent Czech Republic emerged after the collapse of Czechoslovakia.
