Castle Wevergi in Brno

Hrad Veveri, 635 00 Brno

Description:

Vevergi Castle in Brno is a royal hunting castle of the XII century, restored almost from ruins.

This castle, due to numerous wars, was many times completed and rebuilt.

At the beginning of the XX century, Winston Churchill came here three times. From 1942 to 1945, the castle was used by the Wehrmacht and SS to train soldiers. It was destroyed during the fighting to liberate Brno.

The first mention of the fortress appeared at the end of 1213. The period from 1349 to 1375 can rightly be called the “golden age” of the castle. The younger brother of Emperor Charles IV, Margrave John Henry of Luxembourg, chose the castle as one of their main residences, and took up its reconstruction.

The wooded surroundings of the castle are a great place for cycling and hiking. A lasting impression will leave a trip here by boat - the pier is located at the foot of the hill, on which the castle stands. Tourist buses stop right at the entrance. There is a wine cellar where you can taste Moravian wines of different years and varieties. Many cultural and social events, exhibitions, concerts, wine festivals are held.
