Ческе-Будеевице

Salt Gate

Radnič ní ul., Č esk Budě jovice

Description:

The Salt Gate, which is part of the city's medieval fortification, is at the end of Radnichny Street, near the confluence of the Vltava and Malshe rivers in České Budejewice. By its appearance and small size, it is hard to believe that it was part of a massive ancient wall. Construction of the fortifications began by decree of the Czech king Otakar II in 1265, and several times completed and renewed. In some places, the wall reaches 7 meters in height and 1.6 meters in width. The city fortification was equipped with towers and gates. From the city wall remained only some parts and buildings.
