Eichelburg Castle

542 21 Pec pod Sneskou, Czech Republic

Description:

Castle - Fortress Aichelburg is located on the eastern slope of the Pec-pod-Snezhka mountains near the village of Dark Dul, in the Czech Republic. The castle was built on an arched bridge over the Upa River, at an altitude of 115 meters above the level of this river. This is a kind of tribute to Count Eichelburg, who tragically died in May 1861. During the construction of the fortress, not a single nail was used, only a tree fastened in a special way.

Currently, you can see a small fortress, which is a wooden annex with the remains of the observation tower. In the castle leads a small suspension bridge, thrown over the moat. Inside you can see a spacious hall where you can get acquainted with the personal belongings of Count Berthold Eichelburg. Here, for public display, a bust of the count, made of glass, and in the next room - his posthumous portrait. The memorial plate will tell about the count himself, who this person is and what he did.

From the observation deck of the castle tower, there is a magnificent view of the surrounding nature, as well as a panorama of the village of Dark Dool. In the late nineties of the XX century, two historical pedestrian paths leading to the castle were restored - from the Upa River and from the Dark Doul mines. And for lovers of mountain bikes was laid its own track.
