Kromerzhiz - a complex of castle and gardens
Kromě í, Zlí nsky kraj, Morava
Description:
Kromerz is a garden city of Czech Moravia, located near the city of Brno and Lugačovice. In the XIII century, a merchant settlement appeared on this place by decree of the king. The first significant building - the castle of the episcopal residence was built in the Gothic style. The castle was repeatedly subjected to military attacks and destruction, but each time it was rebuilt. The interiors are made with great taste: old furniture, frescoes, crystal plafonds and chandeliers, painting on the walls and many other decorations.
The castle has an ancient library, an exposition of medals, a music collection and an art gallery, paintings for which were collected from the XVII century. Around the castle there is a wonderful park with symmetrical shapes, flowerbeds and shrubs of which are made in geometric figures. In its center is an octagonal pavilion with a two-hundred-meter arched corridor in the Baroque style. The castle and the park surrounding it have been UNESCO cultural heritage since 1998.
