Caesar's Fountain

Upper square, 250 meters from the stop "Okresni Soud"

Description:

According to legend, Gaius Julius Caesar is the founder of the Czech Olomouc. In memory of this, one of the Baroque fountains was dedicated to this historical figure. From an artistic point of view, it is considered the most complex fountain of the city.

The fountain was erected in 1725. The young sculptor Jan Jiří Schauberger and stonemason Václav Render worked on it.

The luxurious pool of the fountain is made in the form of a flower. In its center on a pedestal in the form of a pile of stones is a statue of Caesar on horseback. The horse stood on its hind legs, and right under it in front are statues of two bearded men. The men lay holding hands. These figures represent the confluence of two rivers - Morava and Danube.
