Gelfstein Fortress

Gelfstein Fortress is the ruins of one of the largest castles not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Europe, which is located about 3 km southeast of the village of Lipnik in the Olomouc region. The fortress was built at the beginning of the XIV century and served as a defense, during its existence changed several owners, who complemented and completed the castle. In the XVII century, the building was badly damaged in the next hostilities, the inhabitants of the fortress left it, and it began to decay.

Only in the XX century, these vast ruins began to be restored, life returned to stone walls: the castle became the venue for a number of cultural events, as well as museum expositions on archaeology and the mint and an exhibition of art forged products were opened here.
