Cathedral of the Divine Savior" Ostrava

Namesti Monsinore Sramka 1760/4, 702 00 Ostrava, Czech Republic

Description:

The Cathedral of the Divine Savior is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city of Ostrava, as well as the largest temple of Moravia and Silesia. The decision to build a new church in the city, which would accommodate more parishioners than St. Wenceslas Church, was made on May 23, 1871.

The building of the three-nave Neo-Renaissance temple in Monsignor Shramka Square, built in 1886, cannot be confused with anything else. It is easily recognized by two towers, 67 meters high. The cathedral is quite large - it easily accommodates 4,000 parishioners. Inside, it is no less spectacular than outside, the fresco decoration of the main altar “Worship of the Lamb” deserves special attention. Since 1998, a pseudobaric organ has been placed in the temple.

Today, the cathedral is only partially accessible, but it constantly hosts services and concerts. To get inside the temple, you need to get a preliminary agreement.
