Description:
The Johann Palis Observatory and Planetarium appeared in the city relatively recently – in 1980. It is the third largest planetarium in the Czech Republic and the only one of its kind in the Moravian-Cilesian region. The institution was named after Austria’s distinguished astronomer Johann Palis and is part of the Technical University in Ostrava.
Regularly there are programs devoted to various issues, so easily knowing the schedule, you can get on an interesting packaged program. In addition, there are also music programs dedicated to such genres of music as jazz and classical music. For children, there are also various programs: myths and fairy tales about stars. There are also several exhibitions that can open the curtain of mystery about the universe, proving many interesting facts in writing, as well as displaying their photos.
Of particular interest to visitors is the wall encyclopedia “View to the Universe”, which is 14 large-format panels with texts, diagrams and photographs. They introduce visitors to the structure of the universe and cover topics from hypotheses of the origin of the universe to the place of planet Earth in the solar system. A separate part of the wall encyclopedia, it is called the “eye”, designed for children, and in an accessible form explains to children many questions of astronomy.
The hall has a capacity of about 100 people, where about 9,000 stars in the artificial sky, planets and other objects of space are demonstrated. The doors of the observatory are open on clear days, in the dark. Anyone interested in the secrets of the universe can come here, as well as someone who lacks romance and peace of mind under the starry sky.
