Monument to Milos Sikora

Ul. 28 í jna, p ed mostem Milo&scaron e Sý kory, Ostrava

Description:

The monument to Milos Sikora stands at the eponymous bridge over the Ostravice River, connecting the Moravian and Silesian parts of the city of Ostrava. The monument, created by Konrat Babray, is a young man lying on stone slabs.

Milos Sikora is considered a national hero. He and a friend cut the wires of explosives planted under the bridge to open the way for Czechoslovak tanks, but was seen and killed. The inscription on the monument reads: “The boy laid his life here on the bridge so that the living people could walk on it.” In addition to the monument at the Milos Sikora Bridge stands a tank on a high pedestal, which has on its walls sculptural illustrations on military themes.
