About the company:

The Ostrava Museum is the main city museum in Ostrava. It is located in one of the oldest buildings of Ostrava - the old town hall of the XVI century on Masaryk Square. In 1931, the grand opening of the museum took place in one of the oldest buildings in Ostrava, in the old town hall on Masaryk Square, where it is still located today.

The first museum in Ostrava appeared in 1872. It was founded in Silesian Ostrava by a teacher, cultural and educational worker and collector Karel Jaromir Bukovanski. In 1894, the Industrial Museum appeared in Moravian Ostrava. In the same year, the Czech Museum of Industry and Entrepreneurship was established. After the First World War, all three Ostrava museums were merged into one, with the location in the old post office building. The exposition of the museum includes archaeological finds, costumes, maps, documents, sculptures, paintings and other artifacts that tell about the history of this industrial city in various aspects.

Since June 2009, a new permanent exhibition has been opened, including art and historical collections, the history of the city or the nature and terrain of the local region. The collection currently includes about 300,000 inventory items of significant historical value.

The most important exhibit in the museum are the room chimes-curantes of Masheka, whose height reaches 225 cm. These are unique chimes, divided into 4 parts: clock dial, calendar, astronomical and planetary parts. In addition, the chimes have 51 functions.

The most interesting and unusual is the balcony in the tower of the museum, which offers a magnificent view of the city and the square. A stunning view and a storm of emotions, that can leave a mark on the soul after a visit to the museum.
