White Tower

Kostel Narození Panny Marie, K í ová ul., Klatovy, Plzeň ský kraj

Description:

The White Tower was built in close proximity to the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in 1689, when the temple itself was built in the XIII century. The tower replaced the two-story bell tower destroyed in 1581 by fire. The White Tower, which serves as the new bell tower for the temple, also became the gateway to the cemetery adjacent to the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.

In 1758, the tower survived a severe fire and was badly damaged, so it was renovated in the Baroque style and superstructured, which increased its height to 60 meters.

Thus, in the city of Klatov there is a Black Tower, 81 meters high, and a White Tower, 60 meters high.
