Dominican monastery
Plá nická 5, Klatovy, Plzeň ský kraj
Description:
The Dominican monastery in Klatovy, part of which was the Church of St. Lawrence, was built at the turn of the XVII and XVIII centuries on the site of an ancient temple, located here since the XIV century. The construction was led by Italian architect Marco Antonio Gilmetti.
After Joseph's reforms in 1786, the monastery was dissolved. His premises were bought by the city, and for a long time it housed a warehouse, from which the building fell into decay. In 1866, the monastery was renovated and consecrated as a parish school, which existed before the advent of communist rule.
In 2007, the last reconstruction of the former Dominican monastery was completed and a regional center for the social integration of the disabled and lifelong learning was established in its building, which includes a kindergarten and boarding school for children with disabilities.
