Cathedral of St. Bartholomew
Description:
City Cathedral, an architectural monument of the early XIV century.
The cathedral, built in the Gothic style, is a monumental majestic structure with a sharp roof and a 102-meter tower. It seems that the whole building of the cathedral is directed upwards, following this tower. The tower was especially impressive during the construction of the collection, then it was the second tallest structure in Europe.
Another attraction of the cathedral is the observation deck, located at an altitude of 62 meters. To the site leads 301 steps, and in clear weather from there offers a beautiful view for tens of kilometers ahead. In 2001, the site was enclosed due to frequent suicide attempts.
One of the shrines of the cathedral and the object of pilgrimage is the statue of the Virgin Mary of Pilsen. The sculpture, located in a depression in the main altar, is carved from sandy marl, and its height is 134 centimeters.
