Cladrub monastery

Pozorka 1, 349 61 Kladruby, Czech Republic

Description:

The Cladrub Monastery is a former Benedictine monastery. It is located in the city of Kladruby, which is located in Western Bohemia, 7 kilometers from Strgibro. The monastery was founded by Prince Vladislav I.

He chose a land plot that stretched in a triangle between the border forests and the Uglavka and Mzhe rivers. During its operation, the monastery building became a place for diplomatic meetings several times. For example, in 1219 negotiations were held here for the liberation of the Czech Church from the domination of secular feudal lords. Initially, the Kladrub monastery was built according to Roman traditions. However, in 1233 it was converted to the Gothic style. In 1670, a large reconstruction of the building was completed and a prelactura was built.

Since then, the Kladrub monastery has become a place for pilgrimage. The next renovation of the temple occurred in 1712, which was engaged in a unique Baroque architect - Jan Santini. Kladrub Monastery is one of the largest monasteries in the Czech Republic and is considered a significant attraction. Its doors are open to tourists and there are fascinating excursions, including in Russian.
