Dresden and Meissen

Description:

At the beginning of the 18th century, the Elector of Saxony Augustus the Strong ordered to open a manufactory for the production of porcelain in the city of Meissen, with the same name. Her emblem, blue crossed swords, can be found everywhere in the city.

Meissen is famous for its majestic Albrechtsburg Castle on the banks of the Elbe, and the cathedral dedicated to John the Theologian, whose Gothic preserved from the 13th century at one time impressed Goethe so much that he called the cathedral the best Gothic construction in Germany. No less impressive and preserved city hall of the 15th century, the Church of Our Lady and the Gate of the clothmen.

But first, let's take a look at Dresden. This city is the administrative and cultural center of the free state of Saxony. By the time of the political dawn of Dresden as the capital, the construction of its majestic temples, the castle-residence and the Zwinger museum complex, which now houses the world-famous Dresden Art Gallery, is considered.

The sad events of the Second World War left their mark on the appearance of the city. During the bombings, Dresden was destroyed almost to the ground, but as if the phoenix had risen from the ashes. The snow-white Baroque temple, Frauenkirche, was restored without exaggeration by the whole world, with donations coming from more than 20 countries.

During the sightseeing tour you can also see the Opera House named after G. Semper, the Catholic temple of Gofkirche, in which, according to legends, the heart of the Saxon King August the Strong still beats at the approach of a beautiful girl, the Brühl terrace, also called the balcony of Europe, and the panel “The Procession of Saxon Electors”.

In addition to the attractions, Dresden is famous for its shops, a whole shopping district adjacent directly to the Old Town. In your free time, you can always pay attention to shopping.
