History of the Czech Republic in Sternberg and Konopišt

Now I will tell you about my excursion from Prague to Konopište Castle and Czech Sternberg.

This trip will be interesting for those who are interested in the beauty of interiors, and those who are curious to look into the past. In the romantic Konopište, as well as in the Gothic Sternberk, local guides enthusiastically talk about the interiors and former owners, show valuable exhibits and slightly frighten ghosts. Immersed with rumors and stories from the XIX century, tourists begin to feel quite confident at the depth of one or two centuries. However, from the tangle of today's castles sticks a subtle thread, pulling for which you can unwind the history of the Old World at least until the XIV century. All this time Europe was built of bricks that were sculpted on all its lands. At the center of the European whirlpool, the Czech Volens-Nolens became one of the main stonemasons. Here, as if in a pool, judgments, tendencies and moods flocked from all sides, and here they, thoroughly mixed, were formed-burned and carried back by the current. The castles of Czech Sternberk and Konopishte are inextricably linked with one of the oldest aristocratic families, for many centuries driving European vectors here and there. In Europe, the domino principle works perfectly, and the Sternberks often pushed the very first domino. As soon as I am interested in this topic, I will gladly get involved in the conversation. Sternberk Castle has been their ancestral nest since 1241. Today, almost a hundred-year-old Count Zdenek Sterberk is bored in a rocking chair there. As for Konopište Castle, the Sternberki owned it from 1327 to 1603. And in 1887, its main tenant was the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand, whose murder was a casus belli of the First World War. A tour of this castle is a colorful and emotional story about the touching love of the Archduke and his wife Sofia Hotek. Fans of collectible weapons here will certainly enjoy a huge collection of swords, armor, squeakers and pistols.
