Karlstein, the medieval royal castle
Description:
We invite you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of medieval castles, noble knights and beautiful ladies. The Royal Castle Karlstein has long been a visiting card of the Czech Republic. His image adorns postcards and paintings, and now you have a chance to see firsthand the beauty of the medieval fortress on the top of the mountain.
The castle was named after the founder – the famous Czech sovereign Charles IV of the Luxembourg family. In the 14th century, King Charles founded the castle as a fortress for storing the treasures of the Czech crown, archives and documents. The castle has not lost its grandeur. During the tour you will visit the royal chambers, the knightly hall and you can see the chapel of the Holy Cross, whose decoration is decorated with golden plaster and a scatter of precious and semi-precious stones.
Every autumn in the village at the castle there is a feast of Czech winemaking, where you can taste young wine and fizzy wine drink "Burczak". Also an inseparable attribute of the holiday is a costumed horse procession – the arrival of King Charles IV to the city.
For a trip to Karlstein, we recommend to include in the program and visit the amazing natural attraction of the Czech Republic - Czech America, a canyon formed as a result of limestone mining and is now part of the Karlstein National Reserve.
