Kutna Gora and Chesky-Sternberk Castle

Description:

Chesky Sternberk Castle is located in the heart of the Kingdom of Bohemia. The first mention of the fortress dates back to 1241. The name of the castle comes from the merger of two German words: "stern" - "star" and "berg" - "hill". And indeed, the castle of Chesky Sternberk seems to grow out of the rock in the direction of the stars. From the moment of its foundation, the fortress belonged to only one noble family - the Sterberks. The current owner of the castle still lives there with his family. Part of the castle, intended for tourists, is rich in decoration and tells the history of the fortress, inextricably linked with the history of its owners.

Not far from the castle is the city of Kutna Hora. Back in the thirteenth century, it became famous in Europe as the Silver Capital of the Czech Republic and was the second richest after Prague. In its heyday, the population of Kutna Mountain was twice that of London. To the same period of the 14th and 15th centuries is the construction of the main attractions of the city - the Cathedral of St. Barbara, which rivaled in its decoration and size with the Cathedral of St. Vitus in Prague, as well as the Gothic and strict Cathedral of St. Jacob and the mint. Located in Kutna Hora and its College of Jesuits, the approaches to which are decorated with statues of saints, exactly like on Charles Bridge in the Czech capital.

In the suburbs of Kutna Mountain in the small village of Sedlets is another world-famous landmark - Kostnitsa. This temple, whose decoration is made of more than 40 thousand human bones belonging to people who died as a result of religious warriors in the Czech Republic and the terrible plague epidemic.
