Prague Castle, Strahov Monastery and Hradchany

Description:

Prague Castle proudly holds the title of the largest royal castle and the largest presidential residence in the world. You will learn the history of the castle, ranging from the foundation shrouded in legend, the period of oblivion during the era of Austro-Hungarian rule, to its rebirth as a concentration of state power in the last century. Today the Prague Castle complex includes 12 museums:

  • palaces of the nobility and the old royal palace;
  • St. Vitus Cathedral, whose Gothic towers you will notice from afar, the main cathedral of the Czech Republic, the burial place of the Czech kings;
  • Basilica of St. George, where the relics of the famous patroness of the Czech Republic - St. Ludmila are stored;
  • Art gallery, where you can see the works of Titian and Rubens - part of the collection of Emperor Rudolf II;
  • Golden street, with a scattering of miniature multicolored houses, where jewelers lived, and if you believe the legends, then alchemists;
  • Daliborka Tower, Toy Museum and Royal Vineyards.

The district of Hradcany, located around Prague Castle, is also interesting for its history and picturesque landscapes. It is home to Prague’s Loreta, a unique treasury church, and the Strahov Monastery, whose library has been collecting books for more than 800 years. The monastery brews its own beer according to secret medieval recipes.
