Fairy Moravia - Lednice and Valtice castles with wine tasting

Description:

We invite you on a trip to the south of the Czech Republic, to the land of majestic castles, magnificent natural landscapes and glorious winemaking.

The neo-Gothic castle of Lednice is located on the border of three countries: the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria. The territory of the castle complex is considered to be the most extensive in Europe - more than 200 hectares. It includes, in addition to the castle of Lednice, also the castle of Valtice, many gardens and squares for walking and even artificial ruins.

The first mention of the fortress dates back to 1222, but then it still bore the name "Aysgrub". The castle received its modern name only in the 15th century due to the nearby Dyya River and its eternally cold waters. Translated from the Czech "glacier" means "ice river".

For the last six centuries, Lednice Castle belonged to the princely family of Liechtenstein and boasts magnificently preserved interiors. Among the curiosities of the decoration: a bath made of a single piece of pink marble, a toilet in the form of fish, about rice papyrus, a carved spiral staircase in the Gothic style, a palm greenhouse and much more.

Valtice Castle is in no way inferior to its neighbor, and the duration of its history even surpasses. The first mention of it can be found in the documents of 1193. In 1387, the castle was bought by Jan I of Liechtenstein, who later moved his main residence here.

For many centuries, Valtice was the center of the secular life of the princely family. In the 17th century, a large-scale reconstruction of the medieval fortress took place, as a result of which the facade and interiors were rebuilt in the Baroque style. At the invitation of the prince, the project was compiled and implemented by the Italian architect Domenico Martinelli.

Special attention should be paid to the interiors of the main halls - Marble and Golden, mirror study and elevator, decorated with carvings and inlays of valuable wood.

In addition to exploring the castle and walking in the Park, we also invite you to tasting the famous Moravian wines in the cellar of Valtitsa Castle and / or in the private cellars of the local winemaker. Who will gladly tell you about the wisdom of wine making.
