Vysegrad - the legendary fortress of kings

Description:

The fortress of Vyšehrad is associated with many tales of the Czech folk epic. From the legend of Princess Libush, whose residence was on the Visegrad Rock, to the medieval legend of a priest who tricked the devil himself.

During its history, the Vyšehrad fortress managed to visit both the royal residence and the closed military fortress. Among the main attractions stand out:

  • the rotunda of St. Martin, laid by Vratislav II in the eleventh century;
  • Gothic Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul;
  • Slavin memorial, the burial place of scientists and artists of the Czech Republic, so composers Antonin Dvorak and Bedřich Smetana found peace here, as well as writer Karel Čapek and artist Alphonse Mucha;
  • mighty fortifications encircling Vyshegrad around the perimeter. From the observation platforms on the walls opens a charming panorama of Prague and the Vltava River.
