Krzywoklat Castle

Description:

Krivoklat is one of the most important and oldest castles in the Czech Republic. Its predecessor was the Hunters' Asylum, mentioned in the Cosmas Chronicles as early as 1109. It is assumed that the first stone castle here began to build Wenceslas I.

The castle was of great importance during the reign of the son of Václav Přemysl II Otakar. The castle was often visited by Charles IV, who spent part of his childhood there.

Several times the castle burned down as a result of fires, but was constantly restored. The last owner of the castle, Max Egon II of the Furstenberg family, sold the castle together with the estate to the Czechoslovak state for 119 million crowns, and to this day the castle belongs to the state. The castle houses an exhibition of instruments of torture, as well as exhibitions of wagons and sledging.
