Emnište Castle
Description:
We invite you to visit the Baroque castle of Emniste, which is located just 60 kilometers from the Czech capital. The journey from Prague to the castle takes about an hour.
The history of the castle begins in the 14th century. At that time it was not the main residence of local landowners, and the main castle was a medieval fortress surrounded by a moat, located nearby. By the way, it has survived to our days.
The dawn of the castle begins in 1717, the year it was bought by Count Franz Adam of Trautmansdorf and ordered a large-scale reconstruction. At that time, Emniste served mainly as a summer residence and acquired familiar features. After reconstruction, the castle becomes two-storey, its facade is decorated with an elegant Baroque stucco and a pediment with a balcony, and the rear facade faces the park. Initially, the park is divided into French style, which is characterized by symmetry, an abundance of statues and fountains. Trees and shrubs were trimmed under a strict geometric shape. However, at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, most of the park was redesigned in a fashionable English style.
At the turn of the century, Franz Adam Trautmansdorf dies, leaving no heirs. The castle will change hands until it is taken over by the Sternberg family. Their descendants lived in the castle until 1943. During the German occupation, they refused to accept German citizenship and lost many of their possessions as a result of the subsequent repression. After the liberation of the Czech Republic, the castle was nationalized, and only in 1995 the estate was returned to private ownership.
The tour of the castle apartment lasts about an hour. During this time we will explore the main halls and rooms, as well as the castle chapel of St. Joseph. After that, we will walk through the park, along the noble lime alley, see the lake, mountaineering, menagerie, heather thickets and many flowers: peonies, lavender, magnolias, tricolored Japanese willow Hakuro Nishiki.
On the territory of the castle you can drink coffee and hot chocolate in a coffee shop, have lunch in a restaurant and even stay overnight in the castle apartments.
