St Norbert's Baroque Gate
Hradcany, Prague 1, Czech Republic.
Description:
The Baroque Gate of St. Norbert is located in the Hradcan district, in Prague, on the territory of the Strahov Monastery and serves as the main entrance to the monastery. The gate is crowned by a sculpture of St. Norbert, the founder of the Order of Premonstrants.
This saint revered by Catholics was born at the beginning of the XI century, in Nadrenia. Desiring to lead a life entirely based on the Gospel, Norbert of Xanten founded a Catholic monastic order in 1120. Today his incorruptible relics are kept in the Strahov monastery.
The Gate of St. Norbert, although not the most important part of the architecture of the Strahov Monastery, is undoubtedly worthy of special attention and stop to admire this majestic architectural monument.
