Branitsky bridge
Vltava River, Prague, Czech Republic
Description:
Branitsky Bridge is a railway bridge across the Vltava River. Located in the center of Prague and is considered one of the attractions of the city.
The Branitsky Bridge is better known as the Bridge of Intellectuals. It was built by intellectuals – a repressed intellectual elite and Czech dissidents punished for dissent. Construction lasted three years - from 1952 to 1954. The bridge was built according to the project of the architect Josef Klemes, who long hatched the idea of building a similar crossing across the Vltava.
As a result, the Czech designer obtained a monumental structure - Branitsky Bridge consists of fifteen spans, each of which is more than 50 meters in length. The bridge is fully reinforced concrete. The height of the entire structure is 19 meters, and the width is 14. On the edges of the railway line, concrete paths for pedestrian traffic are left.
Today Branitsky Bridge is an important transport hub of Prague. In addition, it is also a historical monument, not reminiscent of the most pleasant times of Czech history.
