Chapel of the Holy Cross

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is the heart of the Gothic Imperial Castle Karlstein. Located 30 kilometers from Prague, it was the summer residence of Emperor Charles IV and the repository of the regalia of the imperial family, including the precious crown, and other holy relics. The chapel exhibits medieval paintings and paintings on wood, 130 paintings belong to the court master Theodoric.

The chapel itself is amazing in its beauty. The gilded walls are decorated with semi-precious stones and ornaments of glass. The dome is a heavenly vault with stars, moon and sun. Entrance to the chapel is limited, only 12 people can visit it in one hour. The restriction was introduced after the last renovation of the chapel for the purpose of safety and maintaining a certain internal climate. Excursions can be held in Russian, the cost is 300 crowns.
