Church of the Virgin Mary before Tine

The construction of the Church of the Virgin Mary before Tyn began in the XIV century, and since then this church has been the main one in the Old Town. This is a majestic Gothic structure and one of the symbols of Prague.It is located on the Old Town Square.

The temple of the Virgin Mary was built in front of Tyn long and hard. Rulers changed, wars began and ended, revolutions took place. And all this time the temple was built and changed. Thus, today we can admire the monumental building, whose height is 52 meters. The width of the building reaches 28 m, the height of the side naves is 24 m, an average of 44 m. The height of the towers is 70 m.

The two towers of the Church of the Virgin Mary in front of Tyne at first glance seem the same, but in fact one of them is more massive. There are four spires above the church. The interior of the building is very rich. One of the altars is decorated with the painting by Karl Skret “The Rise of the Virgin Mary to Heaven”. In the temple of the Virgin Mary in front of Tyn there is a picture of the wood of Wojteh Hellich. On the pediment there is a sculpture of the Blessed Virgin with a huge halo. One of the vaults was destroyed by lightning and replaced by a new one, made in the Baroque style. The famous Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe is buried in the temple.
