Description:

The Church of St. Francis of Assisi, located in Old Goa, ten kilometers from Panaji, is one of the most beautiful and famous European buildings in the state.

At the beginning of the XIV century, the temple underwent its first reconstruction, but the most significant changes occurred in the XVII century: the facade was supplemented with Baroque elements, the basilica was built in the form of a Latin cross, to the basilica were made extensions in the form of two chapels, where you can see the burials of the legendary inhabitants of Matera.

In addition, interest is caused by a sprinkler dating from the XII century - a chapel built in honor of St. Francis, decorated with sculptures and canvases with the image of the Holy, another chapel - Our Lady of Angels and much more interesting. Another interesting fact is that the basilica was built on the crypt of St. Paul and St. Paul. Petra underground.

In the church of St. Francis of Assisi, you can see the inscription “Poverty, modesty and obedience”. At one time, Francis of Assisi suggested that rich Catholic monks give up luxury and live according to the Gospel covenants. Many people accepted these postulates because they were more in line with the teachings of Christ than the rich lives of bishops, cardinals, and abbots of those years. In the Church of Francis of Assisi, all these stages of the life of the saint are presented in the form of paintings.
