Palá cov zahrady, Praha 1 - Malá Strana
Description:
The palace gardens of Prague Castle, located next to the garden of Na Valeh, stretch over eight thousand square meters.
The gardens became famous and popular in the XVI century, when they became a prestigious holiday destination for rich and aristocratic Prague families.
The palace gardens are an ensemble of five separate gardens - Ledeboursky, Small and Big Palfovsky, Kolovratsky and Small Furstenberg. They include stepped labyrinths, cascades, sculptures, secluded grottoes, summer houses and fountains.
The modern appearance of the gardens acquired in the second half of the XVIII century. The architect Ignaz Palliardi in 1784 gave the gardens a Baroque style of Italian parks.
The gardens have recently been open to the public. In 1989, their complete reconstruction began. After the first stage in 1995, the Ledeburg and Small Palfiovsky Gardens were opened.
Gardens are a unique monument of garden and park architecture, which must be included in any excursion program.
