War Gardens
Vojanovy sady, Prague, Czech Republic
Description:
Voyanova Gardens is one of the oldest parks in the Czech capital. The present gardens date back to the middle of the XVII century, when, on the orders of Emperor Ferdinand III, the former estate of Count Wallenstein was rebuilt into a monastery complex, and around it the nuns set up magnificent and secluded gardens.
By the way, a few centuries earlier there was a garden at the episcopal residence, which was burned by the Hussites. The garden received its current name in 1954 in honor of the famous Czech actor Eduard Voyan.
In addition to the picturesque landscape, fruit alleys and cozy shops, the main highlight of the gardens can be called boldly walking there immodest peacocks in quite large numbers. In small ponds in the park you can find unexpectedly large carp. Slowly walking through the park, you can find the remains of the monastery past of the gardens, in particular, the chapel of St. Theresa from Avila in the Baroque style.
