Lobkowitz

Ji sk 3, Praha, Czech Republic

Description:

Lobkowicz Palace Prague Castle is one of the most beautiful and famous cultural monuments in Europe. The local museum allows you to get acquainted with the interiors of the palace, and also presents a private collection of art objects.

Lobkowitz Palace was built in the second half of the XVI century by the Czech nobleman Jaroslav Pernstein. In 1627, this palace inherited the family of Lobkowitz, whose name the palace still bears. The palace served mainly as a family residence in Prague for ceremonial, social and political meetings. By the way, this is the only private property in the Prague Castle.

Originally belonging to the Renaissance style, in the XVII century the palace was rebuilt. At the same time, many elements in the Baroque style and a luxurious living room appeared. The decoration of the palace halls is designed in Italian style, which is especially evident in the Imperial Hall. The walls here are decorated with frescoes, geometric ornaments, floral patterns. In the Concert and Balcony Halls, ceilings are painted with frescoes.

In the XVIII century, panoramic balconies were added to the building. In the courtyards preserved samples of unique wall paintings in the style of sgraffito. In 2002, the building was returned to the Lobkowitz family. Today there is a museum exposition presented by works of art from the personal collection of the palace owners.
