Small Country Bridge Towers
Kete 97/18, 118 00 Prague-Mala Country, Czech Republic
Description:
The Malostra bridge towers are one of the ancient sights of Prague. Located opposite each other and connected by carved gates, they create a kind of passage to Prague Castle.
The lower tower, also called the Juditina Tower, was built in the XII century in the Renaissance style and served as part of the fortifications of the left bank of the Vltava. Three centuries later it was used as a prison for the most dangerous prisoners. But already in the XVI century and almost until the end of the XVIII century, the small tower began to perform the functions of customs. In the basement of the Yuditina Tower there are engravings of the XIII century, but, unfortunately, the entrance to it is closed to the public.
Her younger, but taller (45 meters) “girlfriend” appeared much later, in the middle of the XV century, and it is made according to the concept of the Old Nest Bridge Tower. Initially, niches were conceived in the building, in which it was planned to place sculptures, but they were never installed. Unlike the lower tower, the entrance is open to the public.
