Description:
Martinitsky Palace is a beautiful Baroque building built in the second half of the sixteenth century. Initially, the building belonged to the military commandant Gyor and only in 1583 it was sold to the Martinich family, after which the palace was named.
Throughout history, the palace building has undergone numerous reconstructions. The southern and eastern wings were added, the main facade is decorated with frescoes. The first long stage of reconstruction ended in 1799 with the painting of the interior. Until 1953, the building gradually declined.
In 1967-1972, a major restoration of the palace was carried out under the leadership of the architect Zdenek Holzel. The murals of the walls and the main facade were restored, the frescoes in the interior rooms were updated. Despite the fact that the restoration has not yet been completed, today the Martinitsky Palace is one of the most beautiful architectural monuments of Prague.
