Sculpture by Moses

Sculpture of Moses, Prague 1 – Old Place, Paris street.

Description:

The sculpture of Moses, which is located on Paris Street in Prague, was created by the famous Czech sculptor Frantisek Bielek.

Bielek is a renowned representative of modernism and symbolism in Czech art.

Bielek completed the sculpture in 1905, but it was installed only in 1937. During the Nazi occupation during World War II, the statue was removed and remelted. In 1946, it was recast on the preserved plaster original.

The statue is the personification of the Old Testament. The scroll with the name Adam written on it, which Moses holds in his hands, symbolizes the humanity for which he is responsible and for which he sought the Promised Land.
