Theresian Palace
Hradchany, Prague Castle, First Courtyard
Description:
The Teresian Palace is located in the first courtyard of Prague Castle, as it is considered, in its most honorable place. The palace is one of the sides of the first courtyard and the gate of the second courtyard. The transition is carried out through the Matiashov Gate, which, by the way, is a separate work of art.
Both the palace and the gates were built by the architect Pakassi in the middle of the XVIII century, during the so-called Teresian restoration (a large-scale reconstruction of the Prague Castle in order to make it a single ensemble made in one style). The palace is built in the style of Viennese classicism and represents
a certain architectural value. Externally, the building looks quite strict and concise, no lush decor, only a few bronze figures at the very top.
Through the Theresian Palace you can also get to the Gallery and the Spanish Hall of Prague Castle.
Special attention should be paid to the main entrance gate, which leads to the palace. They are decorated with gold and a royal crown. On the sides of the gate are columns with sculptures of giants. Under each column stands a guard of honor. Changing the guard takes place hourly and is very popular with tourists.
