On Przykop Street
Na prikope, Praha, Czech Republic
Description:
Street "Na Przykop", located in the city of Prague, is considered the main shopping street of the city. Its name in Czech means “moat”, which is associated with its ancient position between the Old and New Town. Previously, the street, which was a lot of small taverns, was a favorite place for walks of Germans who lived here.
In the old mansions of the street there are shops of inexpensive brands, cafes and bank branches. The first Prague department store Haas was located here. The only one in the city center "McDonald's" is located in the building of the medieval Silva-Tarucchi Palace, built in the Baroque style and decorated with Platzer statues.
One of the most interesting buildings of the street Na Przykop is the Slavic House, built in the early XVIII century for Count Jean Vernier de Rougmont. In the XIX century there was a restaurant and casino, which were allowed only to the Germans, which gave the building a new name - the German House. Now it is the largest cinema in the city center and exotic restaurants: the Italian restaurant Kogo and the Mongolian restaurant, which invites guests to choose raw meat directly from the window.
