Mnišek-pod-Brd Castle

Mnišek-pod-Brdy, Czech Republic 112mZ

Description:

The first mention of Mnišek-pod-Brda Castle appears in chronicles dating from 1352. The castle towered near an important strategic position - the "golden" trade route between the Czech Republic and Bulgaria. For safety, trade was conducted inside the castle, which makes Mnišek-pod-Brdy Castle the first commercial center of the Czech Republic.

Mnišek-pod-Brda Castle also became famous throughout the district for its delicious black beer, which was brewed outside its walls from the sixteenth to the seventeenth century. Until 1945, the castle alternately belonged to one or another noble family. Today the castle is the property of the Czech state.

Mnišek-pod-Brdy Castle is surrounded by a picturesque park, the center of which is a pond. The castle is a popular place for weddings.
