Fountain on Jan Žižki Square
Description:
The fountain is the main decoration of Jan Žižka Square, the historical heart of Tabor. The fountain was built in 1568 by master mason Ondrzej Susice and is a round stone container, in the center of which a sculpture of a knight with a coat of arms and a gilded flag rises on the column. In 1877 the fountain underwent extensive repairs.
The last reconstruction of the fountain together with the square of Jan Žižka took place in 1996. Then it was decided to replace the statue of the knight with a copy in order to preserve the original. The figure was placed in a vault, and a new sculpture was installed on the fountain, which did not differ in appearance from the first.
