Description:
Litomeržić Castle is a former royal medieval castle and one of the oldest buildings in the city of Litomeržice. It is located in the north-western part of the city and was part of the fortress walls.
The castle was built in the second half of the XIII century during the reign of Otakar II. It is assumed that initially the fortress occupied up to 6 hectares and had an outer wall and towers at its corners. To date, only a small part of this large ancient structure has survived.
In the XV and XVI centuries, fortress buildings were badly damaged during hostilities. In 1767 the castle was converted into a brewery. In the XX century, the castle was subject to restoration and began to serve for cultural and social purposes.
