Description:
Ploskovice Castle is located in the village of the same name in Northern Bohemia. The castle itself is a palace type, with a completely atypical layout for the Czech Republic. The castle was originally mentioned in 1174 as a Gothic fortress. The history of the castle is connected with the name of one knight, Dalibor, in whose honor the tower in Prague Castle is named. The sad story of this knight later became the plot for the opera Dalibor by D. Smetana.
The now standing castle was built in 1720-1725 by the design of Dietzenhofer. It was built as a summer residence for Anna Maria of Tuscany, who had two more castles. In 1764, the castle was rebuilt by F.Lurago in the Rococo architectural style.
Around the castle there is a wonderful castle park, in which tourists like to walk.
